Crude slate

Not specifically published in sources reviewed; Houston Ship Channel location and pipeline connections imply a mixed slate of domestic (Permian light sweet, Gulf Coast) and imported (historically Mexican Maya heavy sour, consistent with the former Pemex-Shell JV structure) crude.

Crude in & products out

From refinery research; each row links its source.
DirectionModeRoutePoint / originProductsSource
crude in pipeline Seaway Pipeline
Not confirmed by a source naming Deer Park specifically; inferred from Deer Park's location directly on the Houston Ship Channel, a standard Seaway delivery area.
Cushing, OK / Houston-area crude system crude source
crude in pipeline Wink to Webster Pipeline
Inferred from general Houston-area crude delivery geography; not confirmed by name for Deer Park.
Permian Basin crude inferred
crude in marine Houston Ship Channel
Deer Park refinery is sited directly on the Houston Ship Channel with its own marine terminal.
Waterborne crude imports crude source
products out pipeline Colonial Pipeline
Colonial's Texas origin/injection point is the Pasadena/Houston area; Deer Park-area refineries are standard suppliers, but no source names Deer Park specifically.
Pasadena/Houston area gasoline distillate source
products out marine Houston Ship Channel
Refinery has its own marine terminal on the Houston Ship Channel.
Deer Park marine docks gasoline distillate source
products out barge Houston Ship Channel / Gulf ICW
Standard barge distribution mode for HSC-sited refineries.
Deer Park gasoline distillate inferred
products out rack terminal Lbc Houston L.p.
LBC Houston is a Houston Ship Channel liquid-bulk storage terminal; geographic proximity makes a connection plausible, but no source confirms a direct link to Deer Park.
Houston Ship Channel distillate inferred
products out rack terminal Shell Oil Products US - Deer Park Rail Tanks
Shell retains a separately-owned, adjacent Deer Park Chemicals facility and historical operating presence at the site post-2022 sale, which makes a Shell-branded rail facility at Deer Park plausible, but no source confirms this specific facility name is still active or linked to the refinery under Pemex ownership.

Events

Outages, fires, turnarounds, sales and closures — newest first.
  1. 2024/2025 turnaround

Pemex completed a roughly $380 million reliability turnaround -- the largest at the site in a decade -- upgrading distillation, cracking and environmental-control infrastructure; utilization returned to about 91% of nameplate capacity afterward. source

  2. 2024-10-10 outage

Fatal hydrogen sulfide release from the refinery's amine regeneration unit during maintenance work caused two fatalities; mitigated within about 3 hours. Subsequent CSB investigation cited inadequate equipment labeling and procedural failures. source

  3. 2024 outage

Refinery recorded 6.5% unscheduled shutdown time in 2024, the highest since 2017, and reported its first annual net loss under Pemex ownership (a deficit of about 860 million pesos). source

Rates are pipeline line-haul transcribed from published FERC tariffs; every figure cites its tariff and item. Cost to serve (netback) adds origin spot price and destination fees. "Confirmed" links match a tariff delivery point to the facility; "same city" means the point is in the facility's city — plausible, not proof; "per research" means the facility's research profile names the pipeline as an outlet.
